Wittlich Municipal Foundation

Logo Wittlich Municipal Foundation Wittlich Municipal Foundation is a public law foundation with legal capacity with its registered office in the district town of Wittlich. The formation of the Wittlich Municipal Foundation was resolved by the town council of the district town of Wittlich in 1990. The foundation capital comes from the proceeds received by the town of Wittlich as a result of the reorganisation of the electricity supply industry. The foundation capital amounts to almost € 12,782,500 as at today. The organs of the foundation are the board of trustees, the board of directors as well as three counsellors. The president of the board of trustees of the Wittlich Municipal Foundation is Dr. Hans Friderichs. The president of the board of directors of the Wittlich Municipal Foundation is the mayor, Ralf Bussmer. Wittlich Municipal Foundation pursues exclusively and directly non-profit-making and charitable purposes in accordance with the “tax-privileged purposes” paragraphs in the Fiscal Code. The purpose of the Wittlich Municipal Foundation is to promote Arts and Culture, Science and Research, to support needy persons and to promote sport. The Foundation's purpose is realised in particular by
  • carrying out and supporting artistic and other cultural events, and also the care of cultural possessions;
  • carrying out and supporting scientific events and research projects, as well as commissioning research projects. This also includes events in the field of environmental protection;
  • supporting persons who, as a result of an existing or impending physical, mental or psychical condition, or as a consequence of material need are dependent on the assistance of others, as well as young people or the elderly, or supporting charitable organisations which use their funds for such persons.
  • supporting sport events and performances, in particular in the field of popular sport and up-and-coming young sport talents.
The Wittlich Municipal Foundation acts on an altruistic basis. The members of the Foundation organs work for the Wittlich Municipal Foundation on an honorary basis. According to the annual financial statements of the past five years, the earnings from the Foundation’s assets amounted to between EUR 613,560 and 766,950. Twenty-five percent of the surplus of these proceeds were transferred to the so-called capital maintenance reserves. As of 2001 this allocation was increased to 1/3 of the surplus. Other reserves which currently amount to a total of EUR 2,027,253 are intended for specific projects. Thus the construction costs for the new home in Wittlich for the Emil Frank Institute at Trier University and the Faculty of Theology of Trier, and also a planned “House for Self-Help and Associations”, as well as a nature reserve project in Wittlich will be supported from these funds. Numerous projects have been promoted during the past few years. Projects in the cultural field were initiated in cooperation with the universities, social schemes were supported just like investments for sport and projects in the field of environmental protection. Within the framework of special promotion programmes, Wittlich's sport clubs receive annual allowances for investments. In 1999, a cultural promotion programme was implemented for music and choral societies, as well as for the town's choirs, which facilitates the holding of cultural events for associations from a financial aspect. Larger amounts are being made available for the basic promotion of the following institutes:
  • Emil Frank Institute at Trier University and at the Faculty of Theology Trier
  • Institute for Medium-Sized Companies Economics at Trier University
  • Arye Maimon Institute for the History of Jews at Trier University
A skittle-alley located in the Kaienburg family's former garden restaurant was dismantled in 2000 with the help of a subsidy from the Wittlich Municipal Foundation amounting to some € 10,000 € for later display at the Bad Sobernheim Open-Air Museum and transported to Sobernheim. Wittlich Municipal Foundation contributed towards the reconstruction of the skittle-alley with a donation of € 59,821.15 towards the total costs of € 153,388.
